Home Energy Scotland provides impartial advice and information on energy-efficient measures for homes in Scotland. The grants and loans that Home Energy Scotland facilitates, allow households to afford the heating and insulation improvements required. To bring homes up to higher efficiency standards.

The most affordable way to improve your home’s efficiency is to make your home warmer and reduce your energy bills.

If you do not qualify for ECO4 funding (not in receipt of eligible benefits) then Home Energy Scotland can advise you on relevant grants and affordable loans available.

The amount of grant and loan funding you can apply for depends on what improvements you want to make.

Energy Efficiency Improvements

The following are measures Eco Gen can install:

Maximum grant amount and optional loan available for each energy efficiency improvement: 

  • Solid wall insulation: up to £10,000 (£7,500 grant plus £2,500 optional loan ) 
  • Electric heating: up to £5,500 loan (£2,500 grant available for high heat retention storage heaters when installed as part of a package of measures) 
  • Flat roof or room-in-roof insulation: up to £4,000 (£3,000 grant plus £1,000 optional loan) 
  • Loft, floor or cavity wall insulation: up to £2,000 (£1,500 grant plus £500 optional loan).

This includes zero and low emission heating, electricity generation, energy storage systems.

Renewables Systems

The following are measures which Eco Gen can install:

Maximum funding amount:

  • Heat pumps (air source to water £15,000 (£7,500 grant plus £7,500 optional loan, or £9,000 grant plus £7,500 optional loan if the household qualifies for the rural uplift)
  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels: £6,000 (£1,250 grant available if taken as a package of measures)
  • Energy storage systems (electric batteries): £6,000 (£6,000 loan, £1,250 grant available if taken as a package of measures)


Many postcodes within Dumfries and Galloway qualify for the rural uplift. This allows you to claim additional funding for your Air Source Heat Pump and Solar PV systems.

As part of your Home Energy Scotland loan application, you must provide a current energy report. Which recommends the improvements being applied.

Eco Gen surveyors can assess your property and provide you with an up-to-date Energy Performance Certificate if requested.
